Job Title Patient Care Extender

Job summary:

The Patient Care Extender is responsible for providing high quality care in the Emergency Department/Hospital setting. This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic team environment utilizing your field Paramedic skills. Strong emphasis on respiratory management (advanced respiratory management training will be provided through Cataldo’s Education Department).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality patient care in accordance with physician orders, clinical operating policies, statewide protocols, and accepted standards of care
  • Attend to all patients in a courteous, professional manner
  • Attend Hospital Training to meet standards set by facility
  • Participate in hospital assigned duties, such as stocking equipment, checking equipment, patient transport, etc. as assigned
  • Complete and submit all documentation/paperwork requirements daily
  • Provide appropriate documentation of patient intervention in the hospital setting
  • Communicate effectively with EMS agencies, physicians, and other health care providers
  • Participate in rounds/case reviews in compliance with facility requirements
  • Attend all mandated company training or submit proof of completed equivalent training to the Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs in a timely fashion
  • Must be able to maintain a reliable attendance record
  • Be knowledgeable of and comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Maintain all required certifications as an active EMS provider and supply the Regulatory Compliance Department with valid copies of all certifications and driver’s license prior to their expiration dates

Qualifications:

  • The Patient Care Extender must be fully state certified as an EMT-P
  • Certifications in Advanced and Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Must show proficiency with managing ventilated patients
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with at least 3 years in a 911 system, is preferred
  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) and either Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) are preferred 
  • Ability to work within a team environment by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback; supporting team goals and encouraging other team members; and collaborating with patient care team members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods, and/or reduce costs
  • Ability to operate radios or other Emergency Department communication equipment
  • Ability to identify and prioritize patient health-related complaints

Required: Paramedic (EMT-P), Min. 5 years of experience

*Must be proficient with managing ventilated patients

Preferred: AMLS, PALS, EPC, 3 years in 911 setting
